Care Guide

All Blank Earth’s ceramics are made with stoneware clay fired to cone 6 or porcelain. All of our glazes are formulated in-house using non-toxic materials, ensuring that they are all food safe for both hot and cold substances.

Caring for your ceramics

Handmade ceramics are more delicate and susceptible to chipping than mass-produced pottery. They are built for everyday use but require care when using and cleaning. We suggest that you handwash your pots quickly after use, and try not to leave liquid in them for long periods, such as overnight. They will be fine in the dishwasher or microwave*, but they’ll last longer if you don’t use them in this way.

Any pots with non-ceramic materials, such as a teapot with a wood, metal and jute handle, should only ever be hand washed.

You should avoid moving your handmade pottery directly from cold environments (such as the freezer) to hot environments (such as an oven), as the rapid expansion across the material may cause your ceramics to crack and break. Please give the pottery time to come to room temperature before placing it in a hot oven or filling it with hot liquid.

Avoid placing your handmade pottery over an open flame, or directly on a heating element.

* Black stoneware clay is not microwave safe, as it can overheat due to the high iron content.
