Kurinuki Teapot Set in Snowfall
Kurinuki Teapot Set - Snowfall
Perfect for those wanting to slow down and add some traditional tea rituals to their day. Take time to put the kettle on, sprinkle in your favourite tea and let it steep, and sip your hot cup of tea with a good book or natter with a pal.
Hand-carved from terracotta sands stoneware and glazed to give the impression of rock slowly being exposed from underneath the melting snowy white glaze.
Finished with an oiled and waxed foraged wooden branch handle secured by woven jute twine to loops of brass that will develop a lovely patina with age. Two kurinuki yunomi teacups are also included in this tea set that are decorated to match the teapot.
My teapots are carved from a single block of clay, so, unlike slip-cast or wheel-thrown teapots, they're partial to some dripping when you pour your tea out. I think this adds to the fun of the tea ceremony and gives your teapot a bit of personality! I have included a video of how the teapot pours here.
Kurinuki is the traditional Japanese method of slowly hollowing out clay to reveal its form. Hand-carving pottery in this way produces truly unique one-of-a-kind pots.
Handwashing is recommended to ensure the longevity of your pottery.
