Kurinuki Teapot Set in Matte White
Kurinuki Teapot and Teacup Set
Slow down and brighten up your homelife by incorporating traditional rituals into your day. Allow yourself to daydream while brewing your favourite tea in this hand-carved teapot set.
Made from terracotta sands stoneware clay and glazed in layers of translucent matte white allows the beauty of the carving textures to show through. The teapot is finished with an oiled and waxed foraged wooden branch handle secured by woven jute twine to lengths of brass that will develop a lovely patina with age. Two small kurinuki yunomi tea cups are also included in this tea set that are decorated with ‘smooshes’ of clay to give a comfortable ergonomic feel.
My teapots are carved from a single block of clay, so, unlike slip-cast or wheel-thrown teapots, they're partial to some dripping when you pour your tea out. I think this adds to the fun of the tea ceremony and gives your teapot a bit of personality! I have included a video of how the teapot pours.
Kurinuki is the traditional Japanese method of slowly hollowing out clay to reveal its form. Hand-carving pottery in this way produces truly unique one-of-a-kind pots.
Handwashing is recommended to ensure the longevity of your pottery.
